English as a Second Language

Drake University offers a comprehensive Intensive English Program during fall and spring terms. Improving fluency in English will greatly ease students' integration into the Drake and Des Moines communities.

Through Drake’s Intensive English Program (IEP), international students will enhance their academic success by improving their English language proficiency and increasing their familiarity with U.S. culture. Students enjoy small classes and individual attention. Intermediate and advanced level courses are offered.

We also offer customized programs for companies, schools, and other organizations.

All of our senior teachers have advanced degrees in language teaching. In order to be considered intermediate, students should be able to test at approximately a 380 or above on the paper-based TOEFL, a 30 on the iBt, a 4.5 on the IELTS (International English Language Testing System), or a 70 on the Duolingo English Test.
